Olympic stars to get victory parade- 19 Aug 2008 00:00:00

The record-breaking success of the British Olympic team is to be rewarded with a victory parade through London upon their return from the Beijing Games.

The Greater London Authority has given the green light for the Team GB Olympic medallists to be given a heroes' parade through the city on 16th October, and will be joined by their contemporaries from the upcoming Paralympics.

Team GB is currently on track to achieve one of the nation's greatest medal hauls at an Olympic Games and has already registered the largest gold medal tally since the Games in Antwerp in 1920.

Boris Johnson, the mayor of London, said: ‘To reflect the excitement and pride of the country in our athletes' superb victories, we've set a date in the diary now when we can cheer all our heroes and honour their extraordinary feats at this summer's Games.’
